Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is found in far southwestern Uganda, bordering Rwanda in the south and Democratic Republic of Congo in the west, with a geographical coverage of 33 square kilometers. The Park encompasses three inactive volcanoes, namely Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabyinyo, The park inhabit mountain gorillas and golden monkeys and has only one habituated gorilla family called  Nyakagezi which sometimes wanders into Rwanda. However, there are populations of golden monkeys and other primates are available here.

Gorilla Tracking

Gorilla Tracking is the most popular activity that is done in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Most travelers visit the park for mountain gorilla trekking with one habituated gorilla family called Nyakagezi Gorilla Family.

Volcano Hiking

Volcano hiking expose you to beautiful scenery and there are 3 volcanoes in Mgahinga that you can access from this park, therefore the choice is always yours depending to the fitness and the amount of time you have.

Golden Monkey Tracking

Mgahinga National Park offers the chance to track the golden monkeys sometimes referred to as a distinctive race of the more widespread blue monkey and engage in this life changing activity and achieve an excitement of a lifetime.

Batwa Trail

The Batwa Trail leads from the base of Muhavura Cave. This walk is conducted by Batwa guides who provide insights into their traditional forest life and culture. The Batwa demonstrate their past hunting techniques; ways of gathering honey, medicinal plants that were used and demonstrate how to make bamboo cups.

Bird Watching

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is ideal for birding and Notable bird species include Rwenzori Turaco, Crowned Hornbill, Black Kite and Crowned Crane, Handsome Francolin, Dusky Turtle Dove, Alpine Chat, Kivu Ground Thrush, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, Lagden’s Bush Shrike, Scarlet-tufted Malachite Sunbird, Montane Double-collared Sunbird.

Garama Cave Exploration

The 342m long Garama Cave lies beneath a plateau northern edge of the park, 3km from Ntebeko. It is set in the former farmland zone but in earlier times, it was occupied periodically by Batwa who used it as a council chamber and a retreat.
