Bwindi Impenetrable forest is located in South Western Uganda and is one of the best places to visit for gorilla trekking and offers a unique opportunity to explore its stunning biodiversity and here is the order of how the events might flow. It’s a home to many different gorillas in different sectors such as Ruhija, Buhoma, Nkuringo and Rushaga with Buhoma being the best of them all. Bwindi was discovered in the late 1994 as a designated national park .Its name impenetrable comes from the dense bamboo and thick ground cover of ferns ,vines and other plant growth that makes traversing the forest difficult and the park covers almost Ana rea of about 331 square kilometers about 127 square kilo miles .Bwindi is one of the oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests dating back to the 25,000 years .It is home to approximately 400 mountain gorillas which is half of the world’s remaining population as it lies in the edge of the rift valley .The park is also a home to a variety of other wildlife including the chimpanzees ,various birds and of course butterflies .It has a rich plant life with more than 160 species of trees and ore 100 species of ferns .

Day one, Arrival and exploration of Bwindi Impenetrable forest

Morning .Arrival at Bwindi Impenetrable forest depending on your previous location Entebbe, Kampala, take a flight or drive to Bwindi impenetrable forest, the nearest airports are Kihihi and Kisoro airstrips .Check in at the lodge and you can chose from the various accommodation options ranging from budget campsites to luxury lodges and some of the popular lodges include Buhoma lodge, gorilla forest camp site or silver lodge.

Afternoon After settling into the lodge one can take a community visit to one of the local communities around Bwindi and the Bata pygmies are indigenous people with fascinating history, learn about their culture, traditions and how they lived in the forest.

Optional short nature walk .Enjoy a guided nature walk in the forest surrounding your lodge and it’s a great way to experience the areas incredible flora and fauna before your gorilla trekking adventure…

Evening

Relax and dinner after the community visit or walk, return to your lodge for dinner and relax, many lodges offer stunning views of the forest and the mountains

Day two. Gorilla trekking Adventure.

Early morning .Gorilla trekking briefing .After an early breakfast ,head to the park headquarters for the briefing on gorilla trekking your guide will provide important safety tips and explain what to expect .Trekking might begin into the forest to find one of the Bwindi’s habituated gorilla families ,the trek can  last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and the terrain can be challenging .Gorilla viewing can be a truly unforgettable experience as you get up close to hose magicinsent creatures as you watch them interact ,feed or relax in their natural habitat.

 

Afternoon .Return to the lodge after the trek and have a relaxing lunch. enjoy some leisure time at the lodge and one can also opt for a spa treatment or just enjoy the stunning scenery form your lodges balcony .

 

Evening…Optional night walk to feel adventures and you can take a guided night walk around the parks edge and this is a great opportunity to spot the nocturnal creatures such as bush babies, owls and other small animals.

Dinner .Return to the___14 lodge for dinner and share your experiences form the day with fellow travelers.

 

Day three, Scenic walk, birdwatching and departure.

 

Early morning .Bird watching and nature walk .Bwindi Impenetrable forest is a birdwatchers paradise ,home to over 350 species of birds and it’s the best time for birding and alternatively enjoy a guided nature walk to explore the forests rich biodiversity further .

Visit the waterfalls or Bata cultural experience .If your interested visit a nearby waterfall like the Bwindi Swamp which is a short trek that provides a scenic view and a chance to enjoy the forests beauty and alternatively you could have another Bata cultural experience .

 

Late morning .Lunch and rexation after heading back to the lodge, enjoy your lunch and take in the beauty of the surrounding forest .Prepare for departure after lunch and this time to pack and prepare for your journey back to the next destination.

Afternoon .Departure on your schedule you can either fly out from Kisoro or Kihihi airstrip or take a road trip back to Entebbe Kampala.

 

Additional tips for the trip

Permits ,gorilla trekking permits must be booked in advance and they are limited per day and ensure you are secure your permits before the trip, fitness level and clothing gear ,porters and health plus safety .
