Detailed 17 Days Kenya Tanzania Self Drive Tour – Road trip in Tanzania

Day 1: Transfer from Nairobi to Aberdare National Park

Self Drive around Lake VictoriaYou will pick up your rental jeep and do the shopping before setting off for this 17 Days Kenya Tanzania Self drive holiday with Self drive East Africa.  Leave in the morning to reach the small town of Nyeri for a sumptuous lunch before leaving for the Ark in the early afternoon. Enjoy the experience of staying in a Tree Hotel or lodge overlooking floodlit waterholes where wildlife visits regularly. Over 40 species of wildlife inhabit the Aberdare mountain ranges, hiding in the heavily forested slopes and in the upper moor lands.

The Aberdares is noted as a rhino sanctuary but keep an eye out for the elusive rare bongo, which is best, spotted in the upper bamboo zone and hypericum scrub.Dinner and Overnight at the Ark Lodge.

As dusk ensues, we enjoy a relaxing sun downer whilst viewing the game as they gradually approach the waterhole – a truly magical experience. A hearty dinner and pleasant sleep follows thereafter. The night is spent at Treetops, Ark or Mountain Lodge in your comfortable perch above the floodlit waterhole and salt lick where, nightlong, a procession of animals comes to drink.

Day 2: Game Drive in Aberdare National Park

After morning breakfast, you will go for the  game drive in search of the unique black rhino, leopards, baboons and colobus monkeys. This park sits mainly above the tree line. The scenery is rewarding with its mountainous terrain covered in thick tropical forests swathed in mist. Dinner and overnight at Treetops Lodge or The Ark Lodge or campsite.

Day 3:  Transfer from Aberdare National Park to Nairobi connecting to Amboseli National Park

Leave early in the morning after breakfast via Nairobi and drive to Amboseli National Park. The park is famous for its scenery with a backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, which dominates the landscape, and open plains. Arriving in time for late lunch,. Afterward, proceed on evening game drive at the park.

Day 4: Game drive in Amboseli National Park 

After breakfast, enjoy a full day spent in the park with packed lunch in search of its popular residents like the well-known predators and their opponents like the zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippo with a view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at Public Campsite

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park

Day 6:  Transfer to Serengeti National Park

After morning breakfast, you will go for the game drive and later proceed to Serengeti national Park , the most famous place to be visited on Tanzania Road Trip adventure.  

Note : We advise you to enter Serengeti at 3pm to ensure that you save on park entrance as you will drive from Naabi Gate to central Serengeti National Park in your Reliable Toyota Landcruiser and check in at Public campsite in Seronera Serengeti.

Day 7: Game Drive Serengeti National Park

Considering that you paid park entrance for two days , you will go for the full day game drive in central Serengeti and proceed to Ndutu Region to explore more and spend your night in Ndutu Serengeti . The famous Serengeti National Park, home of the Great Migration. The game drive is spectacular as you drive up the crater highlands, stopping at the rim. Continuing on, spreading out is the vast Serengeti.

Serengeti means “endless plains” in Kiswahili and this 6,900 sq. mile (18,000 sq. km) park is inhabited by more than 2 million large animals including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles, large predators including lions, cheetahs and hyenas. Many smaller animals like rock hyrax or monkeys also inhabit the area along with nearly 500 species of birds. On the second day, after breakfast, full day in Serengeti National Park (morning and afternoon game drives).

Day 8: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Ngorongoro CraterAfter morning breakfast you will head for the game drive as you prepare to exit Serengeti – Remember you paid 2 Days and you have to exit before 4 pm.

Morning En-route Game drive to spot the animals when they are more active and also to have a fantastic sunrise in front of you. After the game drive, return to the camp for brunch, followed by a transfer to Ngorongoro. With walls 2,000 ft high and a crater floor that spreads for 102 sq. miles, the crater is a virtual Noah’s Ark, inhabited by almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa including the rare black rhino. In fact, the crater has the greatest concentration of wildlife on the planet. It contains a river, several swamps, from the top, looks like steam, full of flamingos, forest and open plains.

As you drive to connect to Ngorongoro crater, we advise you to enter ngorongoro crater at 4pm to enable you arrive at Simba Public campsite in the wilderness of Ngorongoro.

The reason for park entrance is that tomorrow morning you will visit the crater and exit the crater without being charged the extra park entrance. Dinner and overnight at Simba Camp.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater Exploration Day and exit 

Wake up at 500am and head to the park entrance to enter the Crater by 6:30am and descend into the crater to enjoy watching the wildlife and the crater, you will have lunch at the carter as you exit the ngorongoro and proceed to leave the conservation with overnight stay in Karatu town.

Day 10: Transfer to Tarangire National Park – Game Drive

Have Breakfast in the morning then transfer to Tarangire National Park, known as the land of elephants and towering baobab trees. Take a period of 1 to 2 hours and when you arrive, embark on a game drives traversing the park’s diverse terrain. You watch various wildlife species wander around their natural habitat and these include; elephant herds, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, lions, and a rich variety of birdlife etc.

The Tarangire River, a vital water source, draws wildlife throughout the year, making for incredible wildlife viewing, especially during the dry season. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild before continuing your exploration in the afternoon. Later, drive to your nearby lodge or camp for dinner and a restful overnight stay surrounded by nature. Dinner and Overnight stay at Sangaiwe tented camp.

Day 11:  Game Drive in Tarangire National Park & Transfer to Arusha National Park.

On reaching the park, traverse from one point to another watching various wildlife animals wander around their natural habitat and the wildlife animas you watch include; elephant herds, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, lions, and a rich variety of birdlife etc. AT mid day, you will transfer to Arusha National Park to feel the off town life of Arusha . its 100km from tarangire National Park to connect to Arusha.

Day 12: Transfer to Dar es Salaam – Coastal Welcome

You will have morning game drive in Arusha National Park and later transfer to Mkomazi National Park, you will check in at Tanzania National Park Bands and have an overnight . Take a note that you will arrive abit evening hours.

Day 13: Game drive and transfer to Saadani National Park.

Day 14: game drive in Saadani National Park .

You will enter the park in the morning and head for the game drive through connecting to the best lovely part of Indian ocean where the land connects to the sea. We recommend staying at the park bands as they are located at the shoes of Indian ocean. Enjoying the beach life in the evening.

Day 15: Boat Cruise and Drive to Nyerere National Park .

You will enjoy morning boat cruise on the River,  Wami River is the main river within Saadani National Park. It’s a vital part of the park’s ecosystem, supporting a wide range of wildlife and vegetation. The river provides a habitat for various aquatic species like crocodiles, hippos, and over 50 species of fish, as well as birds like the mangrove kingfisher and lesser flamingo. After the boat cruise , you will set off to drive to Dar es salaam for relaxation.

Day 16: Dar es Salaam to Nyerere ( Selous) National Park – Savannah Encounters

After an early breakfast, depart for Nyerere National Park on a scenic drive (approx. 3 hours) through small towns and rural landscapes. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive across Nyerere national park where you have an option of boat cruise on Rufiji River.   Dinner and overnight at Park Bands, We recommend camping in the bands or Public Campsites.

Day 17: Game drive and Transfer back to Dar es salaam
